Available with Go Ultra, Cancel For Your Reason (CFYR) is an optional travel insurance upgrade that gives you added flexibility if your plans change for personal reasons not covered under standard cancellation benefits.
Cancel For Your Reason — shortened to ‘CFYR’ — is an optional extension available with the *Go Ultra* policy from Go Insurance.
The policy wording defines it as:
“An optional extension that provides partial reimbursement for pre-paid and irrecoverable travel arrangements if You cancel Your Trip for personal reasons not otherwise covered by the policy.”

– Are booking a long way ahead and want flexibility if circumstances shift
– Have committed to large non-refundable bookings
– Supporting someone whose health may change
– Travelling with others, where one person withdrawing changes everything
– Waiting on passport or visa processing
– Want more room to move than standard cancellation cover allows
Whether it suits your own situation depends on your circumstances, your trip, and what you’re comfortable risking. The Product Disclosure Statement sets out the full terms, and our team can walk you through how it works.
If you cancel your trip for a reason not covered under standard policy benefits, CFYR can reimburse up to 75% of your non-refundable trip costs, up to a maximum of $50,000 per policy.
This applies after any refunds you receive from your travel providers have been taken into account.
Example: You cancel your $5,000 holiday and you receive a $1,000 refund from your travel provider.
CFYR pays 75% of the remaining $4,000 = $3,000
Buy early
You must purchase Go Ultra with CFYR within 3 days of your first trip payment (such as a deposit). Any costs paid more than 3 days before purchase will not be covered. Additional payments and new travel arrangements can still be covered, as long as your total trip cost is within the cancellation amount selected.
Insure the full trip
Select a cancellation amount that reflects your full anticipated trip cost, not just the non-refundable parts. If your cover is lower than your total trip cost, some expenses may not be included in a claim.
Add it at purchase
CFYR must be selected when the policy is first purchased and cannot be added later.
Depart at least 7 days later
CFYR is only available if your trip departs at least 7 days after you buy your policy. It is not available for trips departing in less than 7 days.
Cancel in time
You must cancel at least 48 hours before departure and seek refunds from your travel providers.
Standard cover comes first
If your cancellation reason is covered under the standard cancellation benefits, your claim will be assessed there first. You cannot claim under both the standard cancellation benefits and CFYR for the same reason.

These are examples, not the complete list — the test is whether the reason is personal and isn’t already covered under the standard cancellation section.
Cruises are booked differently from many other holidays, and that makes cancellation costs worth understanding.
You may book a long way out. Destinations like Alaska, the Norwegian fjords and a Christmas South Pacific sailing can be planned twelve to eighteen months ahead. That’s a long time for life to change.
You pay a deposit early, and the balance well before departure. Cruise lines typically require final payment in advance, with deadlines varying by cruise line, itinerary and fare type.
Cancellation penalties can escalate. The closer you get to sailing, the higher the cancellation charge may be. Depending on the fare and booking conditions, some or all of the cruise fare may become non-refundable.
It’s rarely just the cruise. Flights to the port, a hotel the night before, pre-booked shore excursions, parking and transfers can all involve separate bookings and cancellation conditions. Cancelling the sailing doesn’t automatically mean those costs will be refunded.
To increase your CFYR benefit to include new bookings, you must * contact Go Insurance within 48 hours* of making those arrangements. If they agree to increase it, an additional premium may be required.
Easy to miss on a cruise booking, where arrangements are often added piece by piece over months.
The PDS lists five situations where CFYR provides no cover:
1. ✗ You *didn’t select CFYR* when you bought the policy
2. ✗ Travel expenses purchased *more than 3 days before* you bought the policy
3. ✗ You cancel *within 48 hours* of scheduled departure
4. ✗ Your trip *isn’t possible due to circumstances outside your control* — government actions, travel bans or border closures
5. ✗ *Failure of your travel agent or travel service provider* to deliver services you paid for, including their *financial default*
